CHRISTMAS IN WONDERLAND DAILY RUSHES

- Must be business as usual over at the set of Christmas in Wonderland, with director James Orr working overtime to make it a wrap with stars Patrick Swayze and Carmen Electra by June 1.

All we’ve heard is that Carmen took a ride on the Mindbender and loved it.

- Carmen Electra: Just who is she? Other than a few seasons on Baywatch and her breakthrough as a Playboy pinup some time ago, she’s made her name by being in the media - with a short-lived marriage to basketball bad boy Dennis Rodman, an affair with rocker Tommy Lee and another marriage to rocker Dave Navarro.

But we’ve all heard of her. Maybe this family film is the launch of her post-sex kitten career.

- For a low-budget film like Christmas in Wonderland, ($10 million versus an average $60 million) having Electra and Swayze as recognizable names on the marquee will at least garner pre-opening media exposure. And if the show’s any good, it’ll go from there. Be fun if the movie turned into a Christmas hit.

- The film still needs extras, lots and lots of extras. “Thousands,” says publicist Joshua Semchuk. “The scenes are on Christmas Eve at West Edmonton Mall.” For more info, go to westedmontonmall.com

Hollywood has confirmed what Edmonton has been whispering about for more than a month - Carmen Electra will be part of the cast of Christmas in Wonderland, currently filming on location at the West Edmonton Mall.

The actress and former Playboy model is best known for her role as Baywatch babe Lani McKenzie. Other film credits include Scary Movie (2000) and the remake of Starsky & Hutch (2004). She is already in Edmonton.

Electra, 35, joins a cast that includes Patrick Swayze, Leslie Nielsen and Chris Kattan. She plays the role of Ginger, the “brains” in a bad-guy counterfeit operation that includes Kattan and Preston Lacey.

The filmmakers have been flip-flopping about cast members since Christmas in Wonderland was officially announced in April. At first, they said Ray Liotta was a confirmed cast member. But they recently retracted that statement, claiming Liotta was never official and Swayze had been signed instead.

Last month, Edmonton film commissioner Patti Tucker dismissed buzz about Electra coming to Edmonton, saying it was merely rumour, and Electra’s representatives claimed they knew nothing of her travelling to Canada to make a movie. But production officials confirmed today that she will be in Edmonton to make the movie.
